NASHVILLE ARENA REPLACES GEC NAME
The Gaylord Entertainment Center is no more. The building is still there, but the name is not. As of Friday, the home of the Nashville Kats and the Predators will be known by its original name the Nashville Arena.
"Let the record know unanimously that the Predators will be changing the name back to the Nashville Arena," Ed Lang with the Predators said.
The Metro Sports Authority gave the okay to change the Gaylord Entertainment Center, or the GEC, back to its original name, the Nashville Arena.
Gaylord opted out of the naming rights deal three years ago. The main tenants, the Predators, are looking for a new naming partner. The Predators hope to have a new naming partner within a year.
"We're better off changing the name back to its original name, Nashville Arena, and creating an awareness that the name is for sale," Lang said.
Once the Gaylord name comes off the building, a replacement sign will not go up because of the expense. The Predators will keep searching for a new company to put its name on the building.
